WORLD PREMIERE : Gomme – Rape and Run (MUSIC VIDEO)

© Sebastian Vaccaris

“The song came from a poem I wrote when the verdict for the Stanford rape case was announced, and the frustration and disgust I was feeling at the time seeing empathy being given once again to a privileged man who had committed such an awful crime against a woman.

The video, which was filmed and edited by Romain Duplessier from The Attic Video, represents my experience with the psychological repercussions that come from sexual assault; the self-blame, having a skewed and shameful perspective on yourself and your body, the feeling of being used and taken advantage of, and most importantly healing and empowerment through sisterhood.

Symbolism plays an important role in the video, as I didn’t want anything too graphic or explicit. For example, the frog is a symbol for cleansing, the eyes represent the all-seeing eye, karma, and accountability, and of course the tarot cards shown were intentionally chosen, the Nine of Swords being the card of anxiety and inner turmoil, and ending with the Queen of Pentacles who represents nurturing and healing. The animations used in the video are from a 70’s Japanese film about a woman who was raped on her wedding night and makes a pact with the devil to seek revenge.”
Viendre : lien event.
