Post-skate: an updated playlist

POST-SKATE

ENGLISH: The post-skate scene is still growing. While Aborted Tortoise has just released a new EP that propels the genre in front of slackerism, I thought it was time, one year after having published a first ironico-article on the subject, to release an updated soundtrack honoring the genre. Here it is, la crème de la crème of post-skate music, the founding fathers (and mothers), those who will be remembered as true pioneers.

As a quick reminder, post-skate is the new sub-genre of the garage music, the one that will dominate the first half of the 2020s. We first recognize a piece of post-skate music by its speed. There’s also the nervous but friendly and spoken voice (nothing like angry punks), a simplistic and very tight rhythm, a cathartic sound, almost chopped, anti-corp lyrics, a mid-fi production (not too lo-fi) and bouncy melodies with a vehement tendency. FRENCH: La scène post-skate n’en finit pas d’exploser. Alors qu’Aborted Tortoise vient de faire paraître un nouvel EP qui propulse le genre devant le slackerism, je me suis dit qu’il était temps, un an après avoir publié un premier article ironico-mégalo-journalitico-2019, de faire paraître une bande-son mise à jour. Voici donc la crème de la crème post-skate, les pères (et mères) fondateurs, ceux dont l’histoire se souviendra comme des pionniers.

Pour rappel, le post-skate, c’est le nouveau sous-genre maitre du garage, celui qui va dominer la première moitié 2020s. On reconnait un morceau de post-skate par sa vitesse, avant toute chose. Il y a aussi la voix nerveuse, mais parlée et amicale (pas celle rageuse des punks), un rythme simpliste et très resserré, un son haché (cathartique), des paroles anti-corporations, une production mid-fi (pas lo-fi style webcam) et des mélodies bouncy à tendangce véhémentes.
