Crazy & The Brains

Where The Juice Drips
EP, 1 May 2020

ENThis week is… the week of slackers! We start with two releases of Crazy & The Brains, the xylophone punk. There’s first an EP, Where The Juice Drips. Unsurprisingly, it promotes a garage punk driven by a lot of nonsense, proof of this is “Live Fast Burn Cash“. The one that attracts me the most is “I Don’t Deliver Pizza Anymore“, a song so perfectly cheesy that I can smell the mozzarella. ‘Crazy’ seems decided not to change his formula, and why should he? You don’t become a slacker… you’re born a slacker. And maybe the variations actually come from Xeroxxx Demos with a real Daniel Johnston side. Listen to “Carnival Ride” to see for yourself. It’s about love, I think.

Il y a un EP, Where The Juice Drips.

Together Pangea

She Dont Play Nice
EP, 20 March 2020

ENI published my interview with Pangea on March 13, 2013. At that time, he had only released one album (Living Dummy), but he was already one of the titans of slacker music. Hopes have since been confirmed, with Badillac (2014, ranked among the 100 best albums of the decade by Still in Rock) and Bulls and Roosters (2017). The sound has evolved towards something nicer, moving away from the dull aspects of the first songs (listen to “Too Drunk To Cum“). If you’re more into that, the good news is that the band just released a few “songs that didn’t make the albums 2011-2013” on their Bandcamp. “She Dont Play Nice” is particularly excellent, a real slacker 100% pure juice. As for “Black & Blue“, it reminds us of the time of carefree concerts, of camaraderie with a pint in hand. All this and more.

“She Dont Play Nice” me semble particulièrement excellent, du vrai slacker 100% pur jus.

Personality Cult

Demos
Demos, 16 April 2020

ENPersonality Cult has released one of the best things of the year 2020, to put it mildly (see the article). So I couldn’t help but grab the first opportunity to talk about it, so as not to take any reader by surprise when the year-end rankings came out. The band does indeed release a handful of demos that end up placing it at the level of the sacrosanct Jay Reatard, version Blood Visions. And Personality Cult offers a few excerpts from his next album along the way. New Arrows will soon have a little brother, but in the meantime, I’m going back to breaking my eardrums listening to “Pressure Point” and “Circles“, two masterpieces stuck to each other.
