The Faculty

Here’s To Fun

LP, 10 July 2020

ENThe Faculty is a band from Melbourne who released their debut album just a few days ago. Into dirty rock’n’roll a la Amyl and his Sniffers, all the songs have the same self-destructive ambition, strong vocals, and restless drums. The Faculty nevertheless offers a few melodic moments, leaving the dive bar toward a sweaty evening. This is what happens with “Blue Movie.” For now, the execution is a bit too much in line with all the standards of the classic punk rock music, but let us remember that many good bands started this way.

Olde Boi and The Sounds in His Head

S/T

LP, Goodbye Boozy Records, 1 July 2020

ENOlde Boi and The Sounds in His Head is the project of a guy named Raul who just released his first album on Goodbye Boozy Records. His album is a mixture of tight post-punk made of short and incisive tracks, including one by the Ty Segall Band. If they all sound like demos, its very industrial aspects will please all those who wish to spend a summer in a nuclear power plant. Yeah, Olde Boi and The Sounds in His Head is an atomic album, with all the weird transformations it implies.

Cut Worms

Unnatural Disaster

Single, Jagjaguwar, 2 July 2020

ENMusic news is slowing down now that we’re entering summer for real, so let us take a moment of poetry with Cut Worms and its flamboyant love for the past. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Martian ritornello; it’s finally back with the leader of the pop-UFO movement. His two new songs are excellent news for anyone who once enjoyed spending an afternoon reading an old book in a veranda, close to greasy plants, a coffee on the edge of the window. And that voice!

Frankie and the Witch Fingers

“Cavehead”

Single, Greenway, 10 July 2020

ENI was telling you about Frankie and the Witch Fingers last May (here), this band from Los Angeles now gathering consensus on the psychedelic rock scene. If the resemblance with King Gizzard is still very (too) present, they just release two excellent songs with several deaths. “Cavehead” is accompanied by a great video that plunges us into one of these epic KG’s moments. It’s the 70s again, this time without the hippies, but with the monsters. The whole thing has just been released as a single, along with a great “Mind’s Eye” which will soon have its own video clip as well.
