Delusions of October 2020 – Part 1

Jim Shorts

ENLast August, I had the honor of releasing the first single from Jim Shorts’ latest LP in an intergalactic exclusivity (here). The album is now available just about everywhere, and not surprisingly, it’s excellent. Always in the same spirit of a “slacker who meets Built to Spill”, Jim Shorts takes us on a (post) college rock journey, the kind that plays on the campus radio. And to add to our pleasure, the album is very well produced, making it an instant classic. Jim, come back!.

Jim, reviens !.

Favourite songTitre préféré: “Modelos on the Beach“

Druggy Pizza

ENDruggy Pizza is not the only human being obsessed with the culinary masterpiece that is curly pepperoni pizza. But he is the only one who knows how to sublimate a noisy garage rock with lots of stretched sounds. While bands of the genre are usually nervous, Druggy Pizza has the patience of a guy under the psychedelic thing. His two latest songs, “Radium Canyon” and “Blasted Lands“, continue to be the pride of the French scene.

Alex Calder

ENIt’s been a long time. There was a time when Alex Calder was one of Still in Rock’s regulars. Because he was prolific, I used to talk about him several times a year. That was good. And then what happened, happened. Alex Calder has been silent since then and is just reappearing with a few old demos here and there. These days, he’s releasing about ten demos composed between 2010 and 2012 when he was playing under the name of Collage Party. His spectral and enchanting pop has lost none of its splendor. And it’s as unique as ever. What if it was time to come back?

Memes

ENI was saying nice things about Memes last November (here), and now the band is preparing a thunderous comeback on November 20th. To manage our impatience, it has just released an excellent first single, “So What“. Memes confides that it never listens to the songs in their entirety, that it loves the punk and dancing sounds. Its last album was a great piece of post-skate music, I’m now waiting to see if the next one will follow similar footsteps.
