ENI’ve already told you several times about Dennis Cometti, but this time I have the band’s album in my hands. Released on October 23rd, Dennis Cometti is a massive slap in the face of anyone interested in the slacker scene. Dennis would probably have been a band à la Animal House a few years ago, but it delivers a very 2020s garage punk, incisive, fast, something not too far from the Stooges, in fact. The legacy of the Dictators has to hold up well. This album is only 20 minutes long, but the experience it offers might screw us up for a while.

FRPlusieurs fois déjà je vous ai parlé de Dennis Cometti, mais cette fois, j’ai son album entre les mains. Sorti le 23 octobre dernier, Dennis Cometti est une énorme claque pour qui s’intéresse à la mutation de la scène slacker. Dennis eut probablement été un groupe à la Animal House il y a quelques années encore, mais voilà qu’il délivre un garage punk très 2020s, incisif, rapide, un truc à la Stooges bien léché. L’héritage des Dictators n’a qu’à bien se tenir. Cet album ne fait certes que 20 minutes, mais le très haut vol qu’il nous propose risque de nous foutre en l’air pendant un moment.

Los Scallywaggs

We’re All Mad Here

ENLos Scallywaggs is no stranger to Still in Rock readers. On October 23rd, he released his EP We’re All Mad Here which could be the Australian’s lover letter to the English scene. The almost Britpop introduction is quite subtle while the rest is quite redneck: here we are again facing the redneck paradox once again. Los Scallywaggs have a mule, muddy tractors, and we end up being convinced that a weekend at the farm listening to punk music with them would be the solution to a lot of our troubles. If they invite me, I go (for real).

FRLos Scallywaggs ne sont pas non plus étrangers aux lecteurs Still in Rock. Le 23 octobre dernier, il a fait paraître son EP We’re All Mad Here qui pourrait être la déclaration d’amour d’un australien à la scène anglaise. L’introduction à des airs Britpop presque pas assumée, tandis que la suite est faite de choses plus redneck : nous revoilà face au paradoxe des groupes du genre (lire). Los Scallywaggs se la joue coupe mulet et tracteurs boueux, et nous, on fini par se laisser convaincre qu’un weekend à la ferme à écouter du punk avec eux serait la solution à beaucoup de nos emmerdes. S’ils m’invitent, j’y vais (pour de vrai).

ENThe end of the year is undeniably approaching; I thought I would take a look at the bands I listed these last couple of months. I didn’t think I’d find such a good album. Released last September, Johnny is the work of a band from New Orleans (Louisiana) into indie rock and alternative things. It tries different genres, and in the end, there are quite a lot of innovative ideas. The excellent “Summertime” (the band’s single) and the post-nineties “Nighttime Creatures” (hello Elliott Smith) are two great examples, while the last two songs are super raw. It’s excellent.

FRCelui-là, je l’avais mis dans un dossier à ouvrir en cas de disette. Parce que la fin de l’année approche indéniablement, je me suis dit que j’allais donc un jeter un coup d’oeil. Je ne pensais pas y trouver un si bon album. Paru en septembre dernier, Johnny est l’oeuvre d’un groupe originaire de la Nouvelle-Orléans (en Louisiane) qui est branché indie rock et choses alternatives. Si l’album est illégal, on y trouve de nombreuses idées innovantes, à l’image d’un excellent “Summertime” (son single) et d’un “Nighttime Creatures” façon post-nineties (hello Elliott Smith). Les deux derniers morceaux sont super bruts, c’est excellent.
