Smirk
ENWow. Smirk is a new Californian band that ain’t quite sure whether he prefers egg punk, UFOs, post-punk, or 80s-VHS music. Its first album, LP, is at the frontier between all these musical styles, and it’s excellent. I find myself in a parallel world. Covid would not exist. We would be at the end of April. The weather would be nice. We’d all be going to the Smirk release party, somewhere in a bar in Los Angeles. The scene would have been talking about the album for a few weeks now; there would be a slight tension in the air. The electricity of the moment would explode with “Eyes Conversing“, “Do You?“, and “Goons on the Beach“, three big hits hiding behind their lo-fi aspect. Fuck, this album is really good.
FRWow. Smirk, c’est un nouveau groupe californien qui oscille entre egg punk, UFOs, post-punk, et années 80s en VHS. Son premier album, LP, vient tout juste de voir le jour, et voilà que je m’imagine dans un monde parallèle. Le Covid n’existerait pas. Nous serions à la fin du mois d’avril. Il ferait bon. Nous irions tous à la release party des Smirk, quelque part dans un bar de Los Angeles. La scène aurait parlé de l’album depuis quelques semaines déjà, il y aurait donc une légère tension dans l’air. L’électricité du moment apparaîtrait sur “Eyes Conversing“, “Do You?“, et “Goons on the Beach“, très énormes hits qui se cachent derrière un aspect lo-fi qui n’a rien de hasardeux. Putain, cet album est vraiment bon.
